Adapting Our Recipes
How does you recipe fit within the Australian guide to healthy eating?
My recipe fits within the Australian guide to healthy eating as it contain lots of vegetables, seafood and rice. Vegetables are good for you as they contain various types of vitamins, whilst seafood is healthy as they are made up of lots of protein, which is great for developing your bones and muscles. Fish is specifically healthy for your body because it has omega 3 fatty acids, which helps improve your memory and cognitive thinking. Lastly, rice is good for you as it contains lots of fiber and potassium, which gets rid of your body's toxins and improves your digestive health.
How did you help during the cooking process?
Since I had never cooked sushi before, my mother helped me with learning how to cut and roll all of the required ingredients. However, I was able to cook the rice myself since I have done it in the past. This was a very fun and new experience to me, especially because of the way sushi is rolled, which is unlike many of the other recipes I have made.
Which part of the cooking process was adapted to suit a family member?
Since my mother is a little vegetarian, I adapted my sushi so that they could contain more vegetables than meat. I did this by including lots of cucumbers and avocado. I on the other hand am fine with eating both meat and vegetables, so I had more crab meat and fish in my sushi instead.
Why is it important that we are able to adapt our recipes?
It is important that we are able to adapt our recipes so that we are ready to feed other who have a special diet. For example, one my mother's nephews has celiac disease, which means that he can't have gluten. Because of this, my mother adapted one of her pasta recipes so that they wouldn't contain gluten. I think it is also important that we are able to adapt our recipes as it can help us learn how to use different ingredients when we are cooking (like using different spices or sauces).
List and explain three main reason why recipes for families may need to be adapted.
1. A family member may have disease that requires them to have a specific diet. This is because an allergy to a certain food can cause certain reactions if not considered.
2. A family member may not like a specific type of food. If a family member doesn't like a specific ingredient in your recipe, it is important that you can change it so that they can enjoy their food.
3. A family member may not be allowed to eat a certain food because of their religion. This is because other people's religions need to be respected, especially if it does not allow the eating of a particular food.
Why is the planning process so important when preparing family meals.
The planning process is so important when preparing family meals as it cause great consequences if not considered. For example, if a family member is allergic to nuts and you do not check to see if your recipe contains nuts, then it is possible that a family member can get an allergic reaction and potentially die. Always check your recipes to ensure the safety and health of your family members.
What are the main diet-related health concerns in Australia?
The main diet-related health concern is the potential for someone being overweight. This is because the process of eating too much or consuming unhealthy foods can result in the build up fat in your body. The reason why this is bad as being overweight can lead to heart attacks and diabetes, which can cause death. In addition, another diet-related health concern in Australia is getting cancer. This is because cancer is very bad for your body and can also lead to death. In order to fight cancer, we must always eat healthy foods and exercise frequently, especially as more people are getting diagnosed with cancer in the current world.
