How does you recipe fit within the Australian guide to healthy eating?
My recipe fits within the Australian guide to healthy eating as it includes ingredients such as meat, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, spinach and cheese. These foods are very beneficial for your body as they contain lots of proteins, calcium and vitamins such as vitamin k, vitamin a and vitamin c. These are all good for developing your bones and muscles, improving your eyes and healing your skin.
How did you help during the cooking process?
Since quiche uses up a lot of time and ingredients, I had to require the help of my mother in order to help me make it. My mother was mostly responsible for the cutting and baking, while I was in charge of doing the frying. Out of all the recipes I have made this semester, quiche was by far the most challenging to cook. However, I believe it was still worth the wait as it was extremely delicious and nutritious.
Vegan/vegetarian have become more popular in recent times, why do you think this is the case?
I believe being vegetarian has become more popular in recent times due to the the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has been a great issue right now as it is a very severe and dangerous disease. That is why by people are eating more vegetables so that they can improve their immunity and combat the virus. The limited accessibility to meat products in shops may have also caused people to grow their own food, thus making vegetables popular. After all, I myself have my own garden to produce food when I can't buy some at the shops.
Does your family usually eat a mix of vegetarian/meat meals? Did this dish inspire you to eat more vegetarian dishes?
Our family regularly eat a mix of vegetarian and meat meals. This is because meat and vegetables combined contains a lot of protein and healthy vitamins. It is also always good to have a balance of different foods and not have too much of the other. Throughout this cooking process, I have been inspired to eat more vegetarian dishes due to the knowledge that vegetables can be just as tasty as meat. I haven't planned any vegetarian dishes in the future, but I could possibly make meals such as mushroom wellington with rosemary and pecans or vegetarian shepherd's pie.
What are some of the main reasons people choose to eat a vegetarian diet?
I believe one of the main reasons why people choose to eat a vegetarian diet is because of the health benefits that it contains. Vegetables are packed with lots of nutrients, which can help our body's become very healthy. Being healthy means we can prevent ourselves from being sick and receiving dangerous illnesses such as cancer or heart disease. Vegetables are also quite abundant as they do not take as much time to produce as meat. I myself have my own garden at the back so that I can grow plants when I have a shortage of food. Lastly, I also believe people have started to eat a vegetarian diet because vegetables are very cheap. Meat can be very hard to come by and are expensive, while vegetables can be bought in high numbers and be just as healthy as meat.
Could not eating meat have a positive effect on the environment?
Yes, I believe so. This is because the production of meat in factories releases lots of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, which can contribute to climate change. And as we all know, climate change is already a big issue for the twenty-first century. In addition, by not eating meat, we may also prevent the construction of meat factories and thus the use of many precious materials. These may include building resources such as metal, wood, stone, etc.
Vegans not only avoid meat, but they avoid animal products in other ways too. Do you think this would be challenging?
Yes, I do believe this would be challenging. This is because of the popularity of meat in the world and how many generations have spent their lives eating meat. This would make the selling of meat very common and thus lead to a lack of vegetarian products. I also think that just avoiding meat in general is difficult as many products can seem vegetarian friendly when they are actually considered a meat product. For instance, I just realized that eggs are a form of meat, when I thought they weren't.
Do you know any famous vegetarians? Research this and find out their reasons.
All around the world, there are not only vegetarians that don't eat meat because they choose to, but because they were raised by a family of vegetarians. One of these people was the famous Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was born as a vegetarian, therefore he grew up to not eat meat. Although he sometimes ate meat when he was older, he was mostly vegetarian. Another famous vegetarian includes Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. Like most people in the current age, Greta decided to not eat meat because of the environmental impact that the production of meat has on the atmosphere. The production of meat destroys the atmosphere as it releases harmful green house gases, which is one of the primary causes of climate change.

Although this dish took a long time to make, I think it was well worth the wait. The Quiche was very flavorful as it included lots of different ingredients. Especially since this recipe is mostly made up of vegetables, it would be a very healthy meal to eat. This is probably one of the most challenging but tasty dishes I have ever created!
