A Family Favorite Recipe
How does your recipe fit within the Australian guide to healthy eating?
My recipe fits within the Australian guide to healthy eating as it contains lots of meat, cheese and pasta. Meat is good for your body as it contains an abundant amount of protein which is good for your muscles and bones. In addition, cheese and pasta is healthy because it consists of lots of important fiber and calcium.
How did you help during the cooking process?
Since this was my second or third time using the oven, I required the help of my mother in order to teach me how to use it. But for the most part, I was responsible for cooking the meat and pasta since I already knew how to fry and boil things. I really enjoyed this experience and would like to make more recipes with an oven since they are quite easy to use.
What makes this dish your family's favorite?
Even though this recipe isn't has healthy as eating vegetables or fruits, pasta bake is an extremely delicious type of food. This is mostly because pasta bake tastes very cheesy and creamy. It is also quite filling, meaning you won't come home with an empty stomach. Furthermore, me and my mother also consider this recipe a family favorite because it is easy to cook. Besides cooking the pasta and bacon, all we had to do was place the oven baking dish into the oven and wait!
What is the back story/history of this dish in your family?
There wasn't much history that went into this dish since my mother and I only considered making it about two to three years ago. But anyways, I think the recipe behind this dish was actually inspired by my mother's sister! During a Sunday afternoon, me and my mother were having dinner at her sister's place. When we saw what she was cooking, we found out that she had made potato bake. But when my mother saw it initially, she thought it was pasta bake. Even though it wasn't my mum who came up with the idea to oven bake pasta, that's how we came up with this recipe.
Was this dish passed on by someone?
No. This was because my mother and I were actually the ones who created it! But if I were to say where my mother got her cooking skills from, it would probably be from her own mother. This is because my grandmother was a very good cook herself. After all, my mother had 8 siblings. Sometimes I wonder how my grandmother was able to keep up with her children when my mother even has a hard time looking after me!
How often does your family eat this dish?
My family eats this recipe probably about once every fortnight. Although my recipe is quite delicious, it contains a lot of carbohydrates and fat, which can make you gain weight and increase your chances of heart problems. In addition, although there aren't a huge number of ingredients required for this dish, they are very hard to find, especially in this time of the year!
Does your family sit together for dinner every night? What influences this.
Not always. This is mostly because my mother and I don't have much to talk about other than school and work, so we just take our food and go. Since my family is only made up of my mother and I, my mother can be very busy to do chores, so she doesn't really have time to talk. In the future, I really hope I can sit together for dinner with her again just so I can gain a better relationship and love for my mother.
What is the importance of eating and sharing a meal together as a family? Discuss how food brings your family together.
I believe the biggest reason why eating a meal with your family is important is because it can help strengthen your relationship and bond with each other. Whenever I sit down with my family, I tend to talk to them a lot and discuss about my past experiences. These include talking about school, my hobbies and possibly achievements. Without food, families wouldn't really have the ability to interact with each other, other than when they go outside or participate in big events.

Overall, this dish was very delicious. Although the bacon was slightly overcooked, the creaminess and cheese of the pasta very much made up for it. In order to make this dish even more better, I could probably add different types of ingredients such as spices or vegetables.
